theres like a black slate or something (correct me if i'm wrong, i havent seen many people with them or i dont even know if thats what their called!!) anyways, the only way they're different from black is the color of their paws i think. :x havent really seen them!! haha. ive just saw something on here that said they're pretty rare.

Extreme whites are fairly rare! Extreme whites have white spots that cover 90%+ of their fur and are rare because they've only been developed over the past 10-15 years or so! They are only found in a few european countries at the moment, but some have been 'exported' to Britain for breeding purposes. I don't think they are in the US yet! www.egerbil.com/extremespot.htmlAs well as that, there are 'whitepaw' gerbils - they are spotted, but not in the same way as normal spotteds, they almost seem to be carriers of a new spotting gene! Whitepaws come from the litters of the extreme whites so they are rare too!

Wrong board. Gerbilluv, no idea what you're talking about, lol. It's really a regional thing. Dilutes and Extreme Whites are pretty much non-existent in the US, making the the most rare there by default. In different areas of the US, Schimmels are rare; in other places, it's colors with 'gg' that are hard to find. There is a coat color in the US, the High White, that mimics the European Extreme White, but seemingly without as many health problems.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with shootingstar efef gerbils and gg are pretty hard to find, So I feel I lucked out when I picked up a red eyed schimmel at a pet store. In 2003 I also found a colopoint grey agouti in a pet store lol. I try to pop in pet stores as much as I can, to find rare colors and healthy ones too. One rare color I guess I could add, is the honey cream. Its my favorite color, but I hardly ever see anyone with the color. I bred a pied nutmeg with a yellow fox and made honey cream, but only once. I've been trying to make honey creams for a while now...

Dreamvalley - what?? I see lilacs all the time at my Petsmart! Or maybe they're sapphires, I don't know. But like others have said, ef is rare...and dilutes. In my area, I never seem to see any colorpoints! D: I think my DEH is carrying ef though. I'm so proud :3

Actually, come to think of it, I have NEVER seen a dove (Artemis's color) in my pet stores before. Maybe it's just my area or something, but I personally think they are beautiful. I love how they're not quite white and not quite gray, I would love to have one someday. :3 (Woah that rhymed. 0.0)

Dreamvalley is from Wales, so it's perfectly possible that Lilacs are rare in her area.
I get a lot of variation in my area-- Schimmel is about the only thing I *don't* see.

To me, rare here is ee, gg. CP I see a little bit often. Lilac, Black, Argente, and Agouti, I see ALL the time. That is, if the store is actually carrying gerbils. Gerbils themselves are kinda hard to see in my county. They say "they don't see well."

What??? You've never seen an agouti??? That's like the most common color!! Well, here anyway, lol. I'm so jealous of you, though! Burmese is my favorite color! I've only seen it...once? At Petsmart. He was really runty and sick though. Someday, I would love to have a pair that's Burmese and Siamese. I think that would just be the cutest little thing, lol.

I went to a Petsmart and Petco recently. The petco has a mottled burmese and mottled black, so thats something I dont see often (the mottled). The burmese was a quite nice one too, had a white "stripe" all the way (full) across his face.
I went to a petsmart and saw red eyed schimmels, seems like where-ever petsmart buys its gerbils from (breeder), has been producing schimmels lately. I wonder why only red eyed schimmels, and not plain schimmels (black eyes). I'd love to have a black eyed schimmel.
Other than that, I rarely see colorpoints in stores as well. Lately nutmegs have vanished too. I see a majority of Black, Agouti, Dove/Sapphire/Lilac, Burmese, PEW/REW/DTW, and Argente (Any kind). I rarely see spotted/pied gerbils in stores too. The most common spotted gerbil in my local shops are spotted Agouti and spotted Black.

I've never seen any spotted gerbils at pet stores before besides spotted agouti and spotted black. I've seen a nutmeg at Petsmart once. He was still young, so he was DEH-colored, but he had a self belly.
