I bought a Karlie wooden house a while ago. They are supposed to be made of all natural materials and safe glue so I though they would be perfect. Well they are dangerous, please don't buy them. I picked up one of mine last night and caught myself on a metal pin that I didn't expect to be there. It is similar the the edge of a staple for a staple gun. Where my gerbils have chewed like beavers they have exposed two separate pins. I am so glad that I alternate the houses every now and then and I noticed this before putting it back in, they could have really hurt themselves, either chewing them or pushing past like they do. The house that says Karlie Wonderland on is the one with the pins, but they were in the same sort of packaging, from the same pet shop and company. Here you can see the two pins where my gerbils have chewed away the wood:

I searched Google and this picture came up for the Karlie Wooden House. I'm glad you caught it in time, Redsky!

Pictures added. I am wondering if these have anything to do with the recent weightloss I have seen with my gerbils, wondering if they had hurt their mouths and I just hadn't noticed.

Oh wow! That's awful! I'd totally complain to the company as that is NOT safe for ANY animal! Even if it wasn't a proliferate chewer like gerbils other rodents would still gnaw a little over time.
Holy crap.

I'm currently searching, but only found a German site. I have sent them a message, shall see if I get a response. It would explain why Fudge had no interest in chewing cardboard or eating much. And I was blaming the wheel for being too much fun. Really hope it hasn't hurt her, thing it is has probably healed now so no point going to the vets. I am furious! I don't know what to do with these houses, they are all really similar

All "Natural Living Trixie" products + Karlie products have nails/pins.

Why would they put nails or pins into something for rodents and small animals, who chew these items?!?! Grr, I will take them all back to the pet shop and complain. I am furious, they knew I bought them for my gerbils! So dangerous.

I have come across the same issue in a couple of different brands and it makes me furious as well!!! I found a "super pet woodland get-a-way" that uses wooden dowels, but I have only been able to find them in one store 45 mins away from my house! These are just houses for little rodents- why the manufacturer's feel they need to use meta pins AND tonnes of glue is beyond me! And then not inform us that these products have been used on the packaging!

Good to know, redsky. Thanks for the warning!
Like ljoly, we have the SuperPet Woodland Getaway and it seems to be a great product so far.
