 "Other" Class 2007 Results
« Thread Started on Jun 22, 2007, 6:52pm »

I posted this last night, but somehow lost it! So here it is all over again!

There were many very good gerbils showed this time, and I had quite a time judging so please forgive the delay.

Kristi's Joey, a 14-month old Honey Cream male has exellent whiskers and very nice eyes his tail is long but a bit bent. Interesting colour, could he carry a schimmel gene, making him lighter in the mid-torso and shoulders?

Ruth Harris' Petie is a 14-month old Argente female with a good rich colour. She has a nice straight tail. Unfortunately she has an indistinct line between upper and lower colours on her flanks. Excellent whiskers!

Ruth Harris' Vallente is a 30-month old Red Eyed Nutmeg female in excellent condition for her age. She has a beautiful soft coat, and it looks slightly lightened--she may carry a c recessive. She has a slightly heavy build for a female but atribute that to her age, and her tail appears a bit short. Her ears and whiskers are great!

Amy Kent's Gulliger, a 7-month old Black male has a nice soft black coat, and a bit of white on his knuckles and bib. His tuft is excellent!

Vicky's Afro is a 20-month old Agouti female with dramatic eyes and a very good clear demarkation line between upper and lower colours on her flanks. A molt line on her back kept her from a better placement this time. Nice ears and whiskers!

Kristi's Vic, a 12-month old Red Eyed Honey with a schimmel gene is a stunner! He is still in molt, which keeps him from a better placement this time. He has wonderful eyes ears, and whiskers but unfortunately I can't really see much of his tail.

Third Place (Tied):

Vicky's Scarecrow, a 20-month old Agouti female, has very dark ticking for a n Agouti but I like it! She has beautiful dramatic eyes with an unusual eye shine. I would like to see more tail tuft. Excellent features!

Third Place (Tied):

Vicky's Sandy is a 5-month old Argente male with a nice colour and a good clear demarkation line between upper and lower colours on his flanks. His ears and eyes are a bit rounded and his tail lacks a good tuft. He has excellent whiskers!

Second Place (Tied):

Diane Nott of Heavenly Heart's Henry's Buddy is a 24 plus month old male lightened Schimme. He has a nice build and excellent features with beautiful soft, white unstained fur but I'd like to see more tuft.

Second Place (Tied):

Vicky's Chubs is a 5-month old Argente Cream male with a good build, rich colour and fine demarkation line between upper and lower colours on his flanks. His eyes and ears are a bit round. His head is set well into his shoulders and his tail is very long and straight, though lacking a good tuft.

First Place (Tied):

Vicky's Chip is a 5-month old male Agouti with rich colour and a good, high demarkation line between upper and lower colours on his flanks. His coat is in great condition and his ticking is very even. His eyes, ears and whiskers are excellent. His build is nice but could be more bulky. He has a nice long, straight tail and a great tuft!

First Place (Tied):

Vicky's Blackie, a 9-month old Black female is very dark and shiny, with very little white showing--just one hair on her back and a couple fingers with a bit of white showing. She has a nice feminine build, good ears and whiskers. Her eyes have an unusual shine which is not red like a slate, but a golden colour! A great tail and tuft finish off this very special gerbil.

As you can see, us breeders need to bring our attention back to tails. There were only a couple good tufts here and they helped their owners score at the top since all the gerbils were lovely. Well done, everyone! :)

Vallente's a Red Eyed Nutmeg? I didn't even know there was such a thing! I thought she was a Saffron, based on the genetics of her litter sisters...

Could just be the genetics calculator doesn't have it on there; I don't remember seeing it.

the term Saffron is used in the UK but almost never in the rest of the English-speaking world. However, it is a more apt term, since a REN looks nothing like what you'd think of from the words, a Nutmeg with red eyes. They are lovely--I had one once, but Ritziann snapped her up from me! :)

Slaps head...I thought you did! Geez, turning 40 does terrible things to the memory. lol Now who the heck took her, in the end? And her sister--Lorna Doone, remember?
