To solve the problem of raisins (cranberries or any other dried fruit that you give your gerbils) containing too much sugar.... i squash a few , add a bit of water till it's almost like a paste and then cover large bran flakes or dip puffed rice in a thin layer of the stuff. you have to wait for the bran flake, o to dry out again or you can put them in the oven and dry them out again at about 70 degrees celcius....
it's pretty easy to divide up the amounts.... if you use 3 raisins you should be able to get about 15-20 mini treats.... and if you give your gerbil one of those 15 treats a day, that works out ROUGHLY at ABOUT one raisin a week....
guess this tip is for people with a lot of time on their hands...

I hope they enjoy the 'jam'. What made you decide to try it?

thats cute, but you may not want them to have them everyday. about every 3 days would be better.. so less raisins lol.

Uhura well i like my gerbs (and cats) to have a good diet and.... i was concerned that giving them a WHOLE raisin at once would be bad for their blood sugar - its not easy to spread a whole raisin out over a week so i opted for a paste.... i also make my own pellets.... when i have time....
