I've noticed my two gerbils, Chip and Dale, appear to be eating their aspen bedding. Are they indeed eating it, or simply chewing on it like they do everything else? I thought maybe they were chewing it up to make a nest, but I really don't know what they are doing and if I should be concerned.

they are more than likely chewing on it, mine do it to their bedding alll the time, but if u see a dramstic limitation in the beddin then they may just be eating it but again its more than lieky that they are just chewing it

I have a 45 gallon tank 1/2 filled with bedding, so I am not sure I would even notice if it was disappearing but if it is normal for them to chew on it, then I won't worry.

I'll sometimes catch mine chewing their bedding. It's perfectly safe, it's like cardboard!
