my boys are squeaking when they're in their coconut together is it because they're squabbling over space? they're young and it seems that after they stop moving around in it the squeaking stops. there has been no signs of aggression, they are littermates and brothers.

Gerbils use high pitched squeaks to communicate. They normally indicate excitement or stress so it could well be a brotherly squabble over bed space but they could have just be talking away to each other while in their bed .If no gerbils are injured and if they are interacting well together then I doubt nothing bad happened

Usually my gerbils squeak when one is pushing/shoving the other when the one being pushed/shoved is eating or sleeping. Its nothing bad, they dont fight, its just one telling the other "hey! I'm comfortable here and you're in my space!", but shouldnt be anything threatening. as I said, mine only squeak when one is moving the other in their nest or while eating. Maybe thats what your gerbils are doing? Least thats what it sounds like. They should be fine, just watch them if something does break out (a fight).

Sometimes they squeak when they are annoyed, like when trying to both squeeze into a small space or when sleeping (my gerbils sometimes squeak at each other when they're sleeping together and one is awake under the other trying to get up lol)

I know Artemis squeeks at me when I come to his cage door with out any meal worms. That is cute hdasler. I wouldn't worry about squeeking as long as they don't fight. They maybe just be talkative, noisy little mengerbils.

Squeaking means annoyance. They probably are saying "Push Over! Give me room!"
