Hi, I adoped my gerbil from our local shelter, and his teeth are overgrown. However, it has not impacted his ability to eat, and he showed no signs of illness.
Recently though, I've noticed some occasional blood on his fur, and I can't figure out whether he's having a nosebleed (the weather is very dry here) or if his teeth are digging into his mouth. I'm giving him veggies and he's still eating, but think it's time to get his poor teeth trimmed down. Compared to my other gerbil, who is actually a bit of a fatty, this one's a lot skinnier.
I was wondering if it's possible to DIY with human nail clippers? I've never done it, of course. I'm prepared to take him to the vet even though it'll be steep, but if people have done it themselves and have some tips/advice, I would consider it.
Thanks in advance!

Do not risk it. They need to be filed, not cut, or they could split.

I wouldn't risk it. You could cause alot of stress to your gerbil.
