So at the moment I am gerbil-less both of my boys passed away within the last 6 months and I haven't found a breeder in my area with any openings in there "lists". I do have a 1 year old guinea pig and this problem with my gerbils. My water bottle leaks like crazy. I have bought probably 6 water bottles all different brands and styles and they all leak and the bedding get wet and mold and running of things in there home. So: Is there a brand or style that just won't leak? or Is there away to make the bottle leak less or a way to put it so it doesn't soil everything? Thanks
How close is the bottom of the water bottle tube to the bedding? one of the more common causes of a leaky water bottle is foreign material breaking the vacuum seal.
That was happening to me a lot. I had the bottle about 3 inches from the bottom of the tank (the highest I could) and the gerbils decided that corner would be a good place for a den. They kept piling bedding against the bottle causing it to leak. I took the gerbils out, turned the tank around, moved their "potty" to the water bottle side of the tank (it's in the opposite corner) and moved the bedding from their den area to the other side of the tank. I haven't had the problem since.
also the tip of the bottle should be no lower than the shoulder of the animal. I chose to hang mine up at shoulder height of when they are standing on their back feet. I hardly ever have leaking problems, and the only thing i hate about this bottle is that the little tab it hangs from gets chewed off sometimes, but I just wrap some wire around it and have no issues after that
EDIT: Lixit and LM both make the bottle. I use the small size

Another thing you could check is to make sure the rubber ring that's inside the cap is in place. the ring is to keep it sealed so it doesn't leak, but sometimes it will get moved out of place. It should be right above the water spout on the inside of the cap (if that makes sense, lol).
