yeh, they could chew the end of the tubes, but they can only chew the tube up until they reach the box wall (that the tube goes through) so they can't actually escape, if you see what i mean... am i making sense here?! anyways, my gerbils also don't appear to like chewing the tubes as they have other things to do, like taking a bath in the sand and eating treats etc good luck with your mini sandy playground! post pics when you've finished....plz?!

So i've started making mine and it is pretty big! I went to the recycling garbage cans and took what i needed, found 3 huge cardboard sheets to make the base and a bunch of tubes etc.. Here is my first concept with indications but i decided to change it to something more imaginative Here is an explanation of my second and final concept, in the middle it is written "tunnel leading to balcony" the gerbils have to jump. And I have started the dune shaping process with newspapers you can also see the sides i have made I'll show you more pictures but im only at the dune shaping part right now Hope you like it ! My gerbils are anxious ;D

I am now 99% finished with shaping the dunes, i'm still not sure if I should cover the back (probably will) and cover the top window (but it's better for safety measures... I can access all the compartments, which are 4 Here are the pictures , in this one you can see that the back is flat and goes back down to the tunnels i will probably make a hill/ mountain peak in the back Here you can see the tunnels and one compartment with the window which can be cut open easily just in case and on the right another compartment with a safety hatch So this is a picture which you can see the design, the blue lines are the tunnels, the blue boxes are compartments, the red line shows that it is in height, the rex boxes are in height also the one in the middle being a balcony and the other one a kind of higher platform accessible from the ground base... Maybe they will be able to access the whole top if they are brave enough ^^ Tommorow i may not have the time to finish it off because i will wake up at 2 pm and go to a party around 8pm lol 6 hours to get ready ^^ Hope you enjoy and can't wait to see the finally! It'll be big!

Hey again Well i decided to continue today and it is finally starting to take shape, I am still not sure if I should cover the window on the top and if i should make a mountain peak at the back Thx again Ashgerbil for the great idea, mine is starting to look as good as yours ;D By the WAY! I make my own glue since i couldn't find the right PVA here, just mixes flour with water and heated it up and MAGIC! GLUE! And it's non toxic Don't forget to leave comments ^^

Yours is amazing It looks more natural, that's why im going to make mine more steep and make a moutain peak in the back, make it look less like a box and as if the whole were really gerbil made... like yours ;D

So i've actually not finished mine, by looking at the old pictures you can see the progress, still been making some changes, and would like to make a list of some news ideas: - Making a sunroof is quite easy, simple instructions coming up just need to take pictures - Having most of the compartments built at the sides of the base allows you to make windows, like the one in the third picture, to be able to follow your gerbils activity, and also allows you to make an emergency exit/ or a hatch allowing you to clean a minimum inside - You can always make paste out of water and flour - Plaster can be used to cover the playground allowing you to make have more control over the shaping, just remember it is quite heavy, I put it on after the papier mache process since the newspaper would of probably not held under the weight. - Balconies are fun to make Here were some of my ideas ... Ashgerbil you can use any of my pictures or ideas and develop them by modifying your guide... more pictures will come Comment: - The thing is that I am not finding mine natural looking that is why im trying to make things rounder and steeper, with the mountain in the back - My dad actually put plaster of the playground without my permission lol but it looks quite nice Thats it for now here are the pictures, i don't know what else to say, any questions or ideas don't hesitate... comments are always nice I was thinking of maybe making a sort of pond/well by making a depression in the base/hole , or maybe even a secret area like ruins with treats surrounded by walls ^^
