I'm glad this thread was posted - it never occurred to me that there would be pins in rodent houses, but this thread made me check all of my gerbils' houses. I did find a sharp metal pin coming out of one house, and I went out today and replaced the house. From now on, I will be checking for pins every time I clean cages.
I wish this information would be available as a warning in the FAQs somehow...maybe as part of a bigger list of "Dangerous Items that are Marketed for Gerbils" or something similar? I know there's plenty of things out there that are being sold for gerbils that aren't good for them!

Read this thread and have checked the Trixie Natural wooden house I have. Initially, I saw glue and a wooden dowel but on closer inspection, yes, NAILS!!!! There had been chewing around this nail area and if you pull at other parts nails are revealed. I too, am shocked. What makes it worse is that at first you just see glue and a dowel and assume it's all held together like that. I got mine from eBay. Here's the amazon picture as eBay pictures are removed after a certain time. www.amazon.co.uk/Natural-Wooden-Hamster-Gerbil-6173/dp/B000V9OATC/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1371473494&sr=8-19&keywords=Trixie+natural+woodenI'm going to start another thread linking to this, as I've never heard of the Karlie make but am familiar with the Trixie brand and maybe googlers will find this thread title and take note.
