So, I'm getting a pair of gerbils soon and would like to know if it's safe for them to have fleece in their cage.
I'm getting a wired cage so I think it'd be fun for them if I put some sort of hanging bed in there.
It'd be made of fleece though, and I'm wondering, do you think they will chew on it? And if so, they won't ingest it, right?
I'd hate if one of my gerbils got sick because of it...
Please let me know what you think! Thanks!

I wouldn't do this - gerbils will chew anything, and it will be destroyed before you know it. Plus there is some risk of them ingesting the fibers or getting tangled in them. You might end up changing your mind about the wire cage, too, after you have to clean up bedding from the floor for a while. Cages can be pretty messy with the way gerbils like to dig! An aquarium w/ a wire mesh lid is another option. Good luck! :-)

Fleece is a fairly safe cloth to use, however, it will only become messy and gross. Fleece is fine for out of cage play time, but not for living with.
gerbils are just too destructive. Many rat, mice and hamster owners can use fleece without a problem, since they don't spend their time destroying it, and they can't snag their toes in it.
I use fleece with my flying squirrels, and Id probably use it with the goos.

Thanks for the replies, you guys! Much appreciated. I guess I'll just keep it for out of cage playtime, if at all.
