Hi there, I have a male gerbil about 2 1/2 years old who had a stroke last year, and has recovered although he is fairly disabled in terms of the way he moves. He can eat, groom, drink, chew and dig like any other gerbil, but he's just a little sideways. In the past week he has had a cyst on his scent gland that ruptured and is currently being treated and is progressing well, it doesn't seem to bother him at all.
Even though his next veterinary appointment is due in 5 days (after the course of antibiotics is over), I've noticed that on a bald patch he's always had between his eye and his ear, as thats the side his head tilts towards and he rubs it against things, a lump has formed and there has been some pale yellow/green discharge from where the lump and his ear connects. I'm concerned as to what this is and I wanted to know if anyone has had a similar experience with their gerbil so I can prepare myself for good or bad news when I go to the vets in 5 days time.
Many thanks for any replies in advance!!

It could pus from an infection (likely caused by irritation produced by rubbing). One way of quick treatment is topical application of antibiotic ointment (I assume it should be available over the counter).

My previous gerbil had a lump that turned out to be a tumor and she died from it. It could also, more likely be an infection filled with liquid or puss like George said.
Will miss Misty FOREVER!!!
