I just saw my gerbil eating a piece of bedding. I took it away from him. It says on the label (it's Carefresh) that if a small animal eats a bunch of bedding, it can harm it. I only saw this once. Is anything wrong?

Are you sure the gerbil was actually eating it? Sometimes mine pick up pieces of hay, tissue, or woodchips and chew on it - but they aren't actually eating it.

I don't they are really eating it, mine pick stuff up in her mouth and chews on it and moves it around her cage this way- adding certain bits to her bed area etc.

I think that's normal; my gerbil Peanut looks like she's eating bedding all the time but really she's just shredding it to make a nest. I would just make sure the bedding isn't made of pine or cedar. Hope this helps!

Thanks! That's probably it; I haven't really seen him diminish a piece. It isn't pine or cedar. Phew!

Yes, mine also chew it up a bit more for their nest I'd think it normal as long as you use safe bedding; don't worry
