Sorry to hear this.
I think you need to get as many details as possible from the person who found them. Ie, what exactly were the injuries and where, were there injuries around both mouths, blood on paws? Which paws? Whose paws? Front and or rear? Blood around the tank? On the walls? On the bedding, on bowls?
What was the food situation, when did they last check on them? Etc.
it is natural to jump to conclusions even when you have the situation in right in front of you so it must be even more distressing if you are being told from afar.
You said that Zeke was the timid one?
Ask the person who found them to make a note of all these points as soon as possible. Explain to them that you are not attributing blame but you need to understand in order to work out the next steps and to achieve closure.

Zeke was beginning to show signs of being the dominant one, but Oreo usually seemed in charge. I'm expecting pictures, clear descriptions, and whatever else I can get from my friend. Should I try to introduce Zeke or someone new, he is very young, so I don't think he old live alone for such a long time. But I'm afraid he might attack a new friend.. Also, it's not easy to introduce gerbils. I don't have another cage if the introduction goes wrong... Thanks for your help Oh, and my friend had put extra effort into making sure the gerbils were fed over the weekend
