Karens seven pups are two weeks old today. One of the girls has a fixed wrist. She is the same size as the others and she is crawling and digging like the others. The arm looks normal, so I am guessing/hoping that it is "only" the wrist that is deform. She seems happy and cobtent but it breaks my heart when I look at her.
What do you think when you read my description of her?
Bettina
ps; her brother who is the runt of the litter also had a fixed wrist to start with but all of a sudden, his wrist was normal :-)

I know this is a little different to a pup born with a fixed wrist, and I don't have experience with breeding - but when my Pip broke his arm last year I was heartbroken when he had to have it amputated. I fretted no end as to whether he would have a happy, normal life on 3 legs. Whether he would cope and be able to play and stand up to his brothers. One year on he is his normal energetic self, loving life. I'd make the same choice again in a heartbeat. The way I see it, if they can enjoy normal day-to-day gerbily activities without pain... ie. digging, foraging, eating, boxing, snoozing, grooming... then really they're very happy. And blessed with a safe comfortable habitat and a caring owner to boot, unlike their wild counterparts. If she's not in pain and she's never known any different, she probably doesn't feel sorry for herself - so don't feel to bad! Hope that helps
