Just yesterday, one of my gerbils passed, Ophelia. I don't exactly known how she died or what, but all I know is that I was away from home when she did because the next day she was stiff, cold and not breathing. Aside from that, I have a couple questions regarding my remaining gerbil. Her name is Calliope and her and her deceased sister were born from the same litter, so what should I do now? I'm aware that gerbils are recommended to be kept in pairs from the same litter but I don't know if this means I should get a new gerbil. I know you have to do the spit cage method, but should I get another pair of gerbils and do it that way or one approximately the same age? They're about one year and 11 months. Calliope seems okay for now. I put some toilet paper rolls last night for her to chew on but they remain untouched. In addition she was kind of just standing in the same spot for a while last night but today she's chewing on her other toys. Is she beginning to become depressed? Should I adopt a new gerbil and do the split cage method? Or will she be fine alone? Because I don't want t seeming like I'm replacing her sister and have her be unhappy with a new gerbil, but I also don't want her to get lonely. Any advice?
