First question. Does anyone use or recommend Higgins brand gerbil food? Second question. I put at least a 6" x 3" pre bought cardboard box of Timothy/mint mix in my gerbils cage. In one evening they chewed the box and ate all but the dusty portions of the hay. I looked carefully and there is none mixed in their bedding. Is it normal for gerbils to eat this much hay? There are two males. Thank you.

Gerbils don't eat hay. They just chew it up. Hay isn't digestible for gerbils and similar rodents.

I've never heard of Higgins brand, but upon a quick google it looks like a trail mix? Seed mixes are fine for gerbils but you want to make sure that they're eating all the parts of it and not just picking out the treats. It's common for gerbs (and us all) to pick the m&m's out of a bowl of broccoli and leave the rest. If you think they're picking around you may want to switch to a food like Oxbow Healthy Handfuls, which is what I feed my gang. It's little cheerio like pellets that give them everything in one so they get all their nutrients in.
