I noticed the other day my female gerbil, Cinnamon, looking rather wet on her belly and bottom. I have been bathing her with lukewarm water on a cotton pad to try and keep her clean. It looks like she has lost fur from around her bottom and looks a little sore. Her behaviour has not changed besides always taking a keen interest in that area with grooming. Eating and drinking normally. Another two of her daughters had a similar problem with wetness back in February and, after a course of Baytril and separation from others, are both doing well. Cinnamon shares a cage with three of her younger daughters and they all live quite happily together so I would not assume stress related. None of the other three are showing any symptoms. I am looking to take her to the vet but wondered if anyone had any advice/tips in the meantime? Thanks

Does she have runny poop? It could be wet-tail. Try to keep her warm and hydrated until you can get her to the vets. I hope she is okay

Wet tail does have drops you can give if that's the case. It's oral, I had to give it to a chinchilla once. That was an adventure. Good luck!

Thanks I took her to the vets on Friday and they seem to think she has an infection in her uterus - noticed some blood and discharge in the consultation. Prescribed Baytril (which she happily takes from a treat) and continuing with the bathing is helping the area look a little less sore but there seemed to be a small amount of blood when I checked her just now. She seems quite bright and I'm keeping a close eye on her. Hope a good course of Baytril will help!

Red was on Baytril after he was attacked. Drank it like a baby bottle out of the syringe!
