So this is my first homemade mix for my gerbils. I have done ALOT of thinking about it and I have now also worked out the nutritional values. I will be mixing it 1/3 with my gerri gerbil and wagg mix I currently have but when thats gone i'd like to swap the wagg for a pellet food.
If I've worked it out right the nutritional values are as follows:
Protein: 12.8% Fat: 6.7% Fiber: 12.5%
The ingredients are:
20g wild bird food mix 10g canary seed mix 20g whole oats 10g pearl barley 10g red lentils 5g cranberries 20g puffed rice 50g shredded wheat 20g locus bean pods 20g trophy dry diet dog food 10g trophy dry cat food 10g excel rabbit nuggets 10g Alfalfa pellets
I'm only making up a small amount so I don't get left with loads to go stale.
Does this sound like a good mix?
Thanks

Wow it sounds great. The only thing to watch is that they eat it all. Don't be surprised if they don't eat the rabbit food. Though make sure your rabbit food doesn't contain antibiotics. Some does.
I personally make my fat and protein levels a touch higher about 15% and 7% because there is always a bit of selective feeding. But it sounds great!

This home-made mix sounds interesting...tasty and healthy. How did your gerbils respond to you introducing it?

Thanks, my gerbils really like it, I'm now on my second mix of it but this time I don't have the lentils or alfalfa pellets as they where the only two bits they didn't like and added in some bulgar wheat a small amount of split peas and cheerios and changed the amounts slightly, and all 4 really like it this way.
