My boys have been more nervous than usual when i come into the room and i'm not sure why. I haven't been around them that much, but I have been in and out of the room without making much in terms of loud noises. I have been lifting the lid off of the cage and giving treats, but only Gray seems to be taking them from me, and the other two won't take the treat unless its placed in front of them.
I haven't been trying to pick them up either, and have left them to their own doing when they have been stamping their paws on the ground. I have just today moved stuff around in their cage a little. Mainly because they chewed apart the two cardboard boxes i had been using as their little home. They now have a little bunker with a roof and have been hiding out in there.
Could it be that i'm not around much that they have started to be really cautious, or could it be something else ?

It could be that your not around that much and they haven't been smelling your scent as often so because of that, they've sort of gotten nervous. Try being with them somewhere mutual such as the tub and just sit in it and hold your hands out with treats. Try handling them if you can more often. I wish I had nervous gerbils, one of mine think my hand is a toilet and always pees on it when I put my hand in to pick them up ?

Xtra- could definitely be that you're not around as much. I myself haven't been able to give my gerbils the time they deserve, and they're a little skittish because of it. So hopefully with some patience and lots of treats they'll come around!! Just spend some extra time with them if you can manage it. Imjessiegee- Are you sure your gerbils aren't nervous? Mine often go to the bathroom when they're scared. (Like when I, being a total gerbil newbie at the time, put Peanut in a ball and she freaked out.) If not then maybe you have just been so lucky as to be deemed the toilet. My only suggestion would be to try not holding them and instead just giving them treats when they crawl on your hand, maybe then they'll associate you with food and find a new restroom. . .?

Haha, I do, but one of them just hope onto the edge of my fingers and pee quickly before running away ?.
