I have a question about the color of one of my gerbils. Originally, I thought siamese, but I am not so sure. Here is why... - Some of the pied pictures of siamese online I have found are much lighter than Carmello. Although I know that coloration comes on a continuum and there are just as many pictures labeled siamese that look just like him. - He is pied, which I know can lighten his original color a bit. - His coloration has darkened a lot since I got him. - Here is the reason, mostly, why I am asking. His brother, or who I assume is his brother, is a pied black gerbil. However, he is more very dark grey than black. And, I have noticed more recently, his brother also has a clear red tint to his eye under the right lighting. Based on that observation and his brothers lightened color, I am wondering if they both have uw(d) gene. It is the only explanation I have found that would explained my black gerbils grey coloration and red tint in his eyes. And, if that is the case, could Carmello be burmese? link link2 link3 link4 link5I hope the links work. I tried to copy the pictures into the thread, but it exceeded the limit. Any of your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

He looks Pied Burmese to me, possibly Pied LCP Slate. His brother may well be Pied Slate. Only underwhite/CP/LCP/dilute colors have that red glow.

Yours is a Pied Burmese CPS, especially a Pied CPS have very poor pointing. Lasso the greatest grandfather and origin of my colorpoint line was a Pied CPS. I can't find a pic of him but here is one of his grandson Wrangler, another Pied CPS

Thanks for the quick response. I am in the beginning stages of starting my own colorpoint line and wanted verification that he is indeed Burmese before breeding him with my LCP Agouti gerbil. Trying to avoid any DTW gerbils! Again, thanks.
