I stopped in at Petco today, and they had a section where they had some "rescue" small animals available for a $4 donation. There was a solitary female gerbil there. I sort of want to get her, but I'm not sure if I should. For one thing, she may have to stay solitary (but at least she would be well taken care of) as I cannot put her in with my two boys, obviously, and I can't search around for another solitary female right now. On the other hand, I will have an extra tank since I'm updating my boys to a 20 gallon. But then again, not sure how I feel about TWO gerbil tanks in my room (or about how my family will feel, haha). What would you do?

Personally i would get her If you have a spare tank than go for it, plus someone whos less experienced with gerbils might come along and get her but not know what to do ;( And im sure she'll be very happy on her own, as long as you take extra good care of her (which im sure you will). But thats what i would do. Ofc its up too you xx

Thanks for the feedback gerbillover, I am leaning towards getting her. Here's what I'm thinking. Transfer my two boys to their 20 gallon tonight and clean out their old cage. Then swing by tomorrow after work, if she's still there get her and bring her home. I could put her in the 10 gallon w/o the topper for now to conserve space and also allow me to hand-tame her much easier once she's settled for a few days. I can always add the topper later to give her more space. My other concern would be when I move out of my parents house there could be an issue with apartment hunting to allow not just gerbils, but THREE gerbils. I could let that be an additional argument for not getting her or I could cross the bridge when I come to it (could be soon or could be a while yet) and maybe it won't be an issue or I could find another home for her.
Thoughts anyone?

I think it's pretty unlikely that gerbils would be a serious issue when looking for a place to live. They're very small and clean, they don't exactly roam around the house like a cat or dog. Plus I doubt the amount of gerbils would make much difference - and you already have the pair.

Your welcome horselover yeah like Jazzable said, i dont think having 3 gerbils would be a problem. hmm, i cant see what could be a argument not to get her. How old is she? (if you know?) xx

Just suggestions xx

Now that I'm thinking about it though, I might end up just sticking with the two I have....that way if I need someone to gerbil-sit who can't stay at my house, I can put them in the 10 gallon. If I had two tanks it would be harder to find a gerbil-sitter I think. hmmm
On a good note, my boys are loving their new 20 gallon!
