Hi guys
I've got three gerbils housed together and I've just noticed hair loss on 2 of my gerbils' tails... I want to assume that the third is over grooming the other two as his tail is still very fluffy with no hair loss. He is a fairly young gerbil who I recently introduced to my older gerbil along with the other one. They seem to be getting along fine, sleeping together, grooming eachother etc. Am I safe to assume that over grooming is the case and its not fighting or something more serious?

Its over grooming. Often the dominant gerbil in a group is the one who over grooms other gerbils. Since this is a younger animal doing the over grooming, i would keep a watchful eye on the group.
Make sure they have proper stimulation and entertaining things to do, make sure they're getting new cardboard, and have either places to dig, or run.
