Hi Everyone, I just got two gerbils for my daughter and I can't believe how cool these little critters are. We already have two dwarf hamsters and we wanted (she wanted) to get another pet with her birthday money. So we bought another "critter trail" cage and a single Gerbil. Once everything was setup I sat down and done some research on the internet about caring for Gerbils, just as I did for the hamsters. Straight away I realized that we should have got a pair of gerbils instead of just one, and they needed a little more room to live. So we both went back to the store and got another gerbil from the same litter. I also got a 10 Gallon tank, toys, and extra bedding. Once all this was setup and connected to the original cage I filled the tank with about 8 inches of bedding, tubes, tissue, hay and toys to gnaw on and then i let them have it. I must of spent a couple of hours watching in amazement as they went about constructing their new home. We've had them for a few days now and I spend quite a bit of time watching them and interacting with them. They are so intelligent and inquisitive. I wish I had experienced these little guys, or girls in my case, a long time ago. I'm 41 years old and I can honestly say that I will keeping Gerbils as pets from now on.
I'm looking forward to being part of this forum and learning new things,
Chris.

Hey, Chris. Welcome to the forum. Gerbils ARE amazing. What you write resonates with me: I'm 34 and didn't realise until earlier this year what I'd been missing I've been living with Tillda and Mr.Jones for 9 months now, and they still have the capacity to surprise me - with their character, behaviour, cuteness-levels, etc. Enjoy!

My daughter named both of them. One is a monotone sand color and her name is Gween and the other is a dark brown/black with white patches and her name is Cow. I'm not sure how my 7 year old daughter came up with the name Gween but it's kind of cool. I also just finished building them a new home. I'm guessing it's about 100 gallons and made of laminated wood and plexiglass. I still have their 10 gallon tank connected which they use as home and prefer to sleep there. The new space is covered with about 4 inches of sand, rocks, twigs and a section with hay and bedding. They seem to like it

I'm late posting here but you have beautiful gerbils - Gween is siamese and Cow is pied black (just like my Simon) I can see from the pictures that their habitat looks so natural and gorgeous! I'd love to see more of it

I'm also late, but I just have to say that I'm impressed by the pictures! They're so clear! And the gerbils are adorable!! I enjoy photography but am by no means an actual photographer (if I were I'd be a pretty bad one) and I do like the challenge of scurrying little gerbils as subjects. Lovely girls, and as already said the set-up looks awesome!

I have a bunch more video of both Gerbils exploring and interacting with the camera, which I'll edit real soon and post here.

I should have mentioned that the habitat got changed a little. I added a maze of 1.5" piping, which they seem to really like and I changed from Carefresh to a mixture Aspen and Timothy hay, which is great for burrowing. They still have some Carefresh for bedding in their sleeping area. Since I made these changes they seem to be more active and less shy, probably because there are more hiding/safe places and not as open as it was.

The tank set up is looking awesome I'm trying to get ideas to make/extend my littles ones home I like the way you've used a tube to connect the first tank so not to go to waste

my Dusty has 3 of the extra large KritterKeeper tanks connected with those Crittertrail tubes and one medium tank for sand bathing. its a great way to make sure that they have plenty of room even if there isn't room for a single 20 gallon tank
