Be honest? I can't decide if he's fat or just poofy. I've had him since a baby so I've seen him grow a lot but he's a lot rounder than my girls and they're only a few months apart. I just wanna make sure he's healthy. ~A

Do you have a kitchen or postage scale where you can weigh him? Male gerbils are usually significantly larger than females. Typical weight for adult females is 70 - 100g, while males range between 90 and 120 g.

Males generally get bigger and rounder with age while females tend to keep their girlish figures. He looks normal.

He's similar in shape to my big boy Simon, who is ~ 120g and completely made of muscle. If Red is the dominant gerbil, this could have something to do with it.

(some males can be up to 135 and still be healthy, but most males over 140 are obese).
