I currently have two full brothers, Jinxx and Jalex(5 mos on the 11th). Their parents(whom my brother is breeding) had a second litter and they are separating them today.
My brother is now coming over with all the babies(6 weeks) and I was wondering, how would my two react? I'm only keeping one of them, who will be male(of course!)
Would the split cage method have to take place? I actually just found out that i'm getting him today, so i didn't really have a lot of time to prepare. I putting all three together, and see how that goes. (unless someone can post beforehand.)
Will also be posting how it goes after a while.
EDIT:
I put the little one with only one brother at a time. They both attacked him >.<(Hes fine though!) Went to the store to get a divider, but the only ones they had were purely for fish. So they gave us a used tank to use temporarily. Any ideas/suggestions?
Also, since the older two are bigger and older, does that mean they are purely territorial? I put them in neutral grounds, btw.

Introducing one gerbil to 2 very rarely works (if ever) them being bothers won't make any difference (especially as there from a different litter). Its up to you if you want to try the split cage method, but it might be better to get another boy from the new litter and keep them separately.
As the older 2 have already formed there clan the baby will probably just be seen as an intruder or as danger.

I wouldn't encourage the neutral territory introduction method in any case. If you're going to introduce, I would definitely suggest the split cage. That being said, introducing a pup to two adults is not likely to work. Two pups to an adult works generally, but not the other way around. My advice would be keep two of the pups and have two pairs, or if you can't do that, then the one pup will just have to live on his own. You can try the intro if you want, but I doubt it will work. And about the divider, its pretty hard to just buy one of those that would work. I would suggest making one, they're pretty simple.

Actually, the baby is a girl. They got mixed up apparently(her and the rest of the litter) BUT we are still keeping her.
Right now, we are planning on getting a new male gerbil(none of my boys and none of her siblings) in about a month to breed them.
Brink(what I've decided to name her <3) is currently in a tank that is smaller than a 10 gallon. Only for a week at the most, and its borrowed from one of the pet shops anyway. Jinx and Jalex are currenctly in a 20 gallon, and when we get the third male, i was wondering if it would be recommended to switch the four of them? Just until Brink and her new mate are used to each other.(Then I will use the split cage method. Found tutorials online ^^) so Brink and the third male will be in the 20 gallon and such.

It would really be best for Brink if you send her back to live with her parents for now. She still needs to learn gerbil social skills and would very much benefit from learning parenting skills as well. If you keep her alone during this critical period you may not be able to introduce her to any gerbil ever a month from now.

How long though? I might not be able to do that anyways though. And I thought 6 weeks was the best time to separate?

Six weeks is a great time to separate as long as you have one or more other gerbils for her to live with. If not she can stay with parents for an extra month if need be. Might be hard to reintroduce her if she's been on her own this long already.

so just one week alone can make that difference? Didn't know that x3 Would it be fine to get a male now but keep them separated(With split cage, of course) for about a month?
