I got a female DEH two weeks yesterday who had recently raised a litter of three males on her own. She wasnt split from them until they were about eight weeks and I dont know when her male partner died. I could feel her bones when I got her but in the two weeks I've had her her tummy has enlarged and is showing slightly. Shes been busy all day and night on her nest and has constantly been drinking and eating today. Also, shes more laid back than before and slighlty more nippy and cautious. Its hard to tell with the calm side as she was perfectly fine and confident with me when I got her but still a bit jumpy (called her joey cause of that)

Do you have some pictures we could see? I've heard that another way to tell is if you hold her on the palm of her hand, a pregnant gerbil's belly should touch your palm while a non-pregnant gerbil's won't. And as far as her getting larger, she'll bulge in the middle area. Also, if she's going to have pups within a few days, you can see the pups wiggling in her belly when she's asleep.

Its not completely clear in photos but she is seemingly growing around the belly area I heard males are always fertile so incest perhaps if anything?

You might try looking up some pictures of pregnant females and comparing- the pregnant bulge is pretty obvious so that may help. I'm a little confused. . . you mean males are always fertile as in she may have bred with her 8 week-old pups? That is possible, but I'd say its more likely that she bred with her male partner, assuming he didn't die before that litter was born.

Ive looked up pictures however they're normally ones that are about to go into labour. Joeys been nesting more, drinking more and has been a bit nibbly when held. She is also alot slower and easier to catch assshe is more laid back than a couple weeks ago, however I don't want to get that mixed up with her getting used to me. If it means anything shes also storing her food for a change. She isnt bloated as I dont feed her fruit.

If she really is pregnant, over the nest few days she should start showing obviously. And, the pups would start moving in her belly a couple of days before labor. So I guess my best advice is to simply wait. If you do see the pups moving in her belly, you should do a final cage cleaning and do anything else you need to in order to prepare for babies as they aren't far away and they are at that point guaranteed.
