Hi everyone, question for you all. My trio consists of three males. Christopher, Luke, and Digger. Christopher is the most dominant and Luke is the least, which of course puts Digger in the middle. No actual fighting has broken out, but Digger and Christopher are not as... nice as they could be to Luke. Things like chasing him back into the burrow so they get first choice of food. (Others too, but it's getting late here.) My question is would it help to give Luke individual human attention? For example, he's the first one awake in the morning. So, could I take him out of the tank for some one on one bonding time? Or would this make his brothers hostile? I don't want to cause a declan, but I'd like to make him feel special and loved. Am I over-thinking this? (Probably) Thanks!

As odd as this question may seem (as far as declanning concerned) I know gerbils are scent driven and if one gets out of an extended amount of time, it can be a problem.

I don't think a bit of extra time out would be a problem. Mine have been separated from each other for as much as several hours at a time (when one of them escaped and the others didn't. ), and when they were reunited everything was normal. It could be good to give the least dominant one some time on his own so you can make sure he gets some treats and stuff. Although another thing to consider is that he might also be the most nervous/skittish one (that's the case for mine). And if so, he might get easily freaked out by being out of the cage on his own for a while. But you can just keep an eye on his behaviour and see if he seems scared being on his own.

Thanks, Jazzable. Probably sounded like a ridiculous thing to worry about. But I'm like that with pretty much everything.
