I have to bring up the Oxbow discussion again. I chose Oxbow because that is what my gerbils were used to eating when I got them and it sounded nutritionally well-balanced. I also like the fact that they can't pick out their favorite tidbits and leave the rest behind. So, is Oxbow alone enough to keep a gerbil in good health? When I put them in their playpen, I often scatter a little Rainbow food around so they can have fun foraging and I give them little treats of fruit and vegetables from time to time. But, I am still curious if Oxbow would be enough if that was all that was given.
Also, do the vitamins and stuff go out after a time - that happens with vitamin C in guinea pig food.

Everything I've read indicates Oxbow is very healthy and perfectly fine as the primary/only food gerbils eat. If you are also treating them with occasional bits and pieces of other food, I'm sure they will be happy, healthy, critters. I'm not sure about a 'best-before' date for the food.
