So unfortunately, I have to visit family from tomorrow through Saturday. My landlady is watching the boys for me.I cut up a bunch of cardboard, left feeding and water change instructions. Is there anything else you all would add? This is the first time I left them overnight since I bought them home.

I would just stress the importance of keeping the tank or cages securely closed at all times. Daisy

Yes, thank you! I will add that. The one thing I worry about is that they'll be less tame after a few days of not being handled/interacted with as much. But at least I know they'll have everything they need and I can give them out of cage time on Saturday.

Think how excited they will be to see you when you return. We'll have a similar situation, though only for a couple days, around Christmas time.

Aww, Thanks, Mothman. I hope they'll be hapoy to see me when I get home. I'm glad it'll only be 4 and a half days.

I went on holiday for 2 weeks and left one of my past gerbils Tenshi in the care of my now ex's brother who loved watching Tenshi run around and dig but never wanted to hold him so I know he went the whole 2 weeks without being picked up however when I got home he was more then happy to come out for play time and cuddles he was older though around 2 years I think he was just thankful for time out of the tank again.

Last summer, I went away for a few days and a very nice woman took care of my gerbils. She did an excellent job, except she didn't feel comfortable holding them or taking them out of their tank. When I came back, they seemed happy to see me in that they ran out and stood on their hind legs. However, your gerbils react when you return, I'm sure they will be back to their old selves in no time. Let us know what happens.

Update for anyone following: I returned a day early to find them fine, but hiding more. One of the Thanksgiving guests is staying until tomorrow. He's nine and prone to screaming and door slamming. For my own sanity and lack of evidence, I'm gonna assume he didn't come near them while I was gone.
But the guests are leaving tomorrow and it'll be quiet/calm again. How long do you think it will take for the gerbils to relax/feel comfortable again?
