Can you de-attach the stand from the wheel and attach it to bars?

Yes you can. You can also do this with the Silent Spinner wheels. I find that ditching the wire stand makes these wheels far more quiet. The spinning hub of these wheels is whisper quiet, but the wire stand causes the whole thing to bounce around noisily when the gerbil is running. Even if you tie down the wire stand to some kind of base, it still has a lot of vibration during use. If you want real quiet, attach the wheel through the cage bars and then wire a thin length of wood to the outside of the cage to stiffen the area where the wheel is attached to the cage. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Arwen (F) and Eowyn (F) 11/12/2011 - 20 gallon with 20 gallon topper Goldberry (F) 11/12/2011 - 20 gallon with 20 gallon topper

I'm probably seeing this post late - but I just got a comfort wheel a week ago and I couldn't get it to attach to the bars - it has a plastic thing where it's supposed to attach but I couldn't get the bars between the things. That only makes sense if you have the wheel and have tried it already I guess lol. The other issue I had was that it was too stiff to spin so I had to take it apart and sand the tube on the wheel that the axle inserts into a hair shorter and then lube it with vegetable oil - after that it works great and my hamster prefers that one to any of the 5 wheels he tested so far so it must be really comfortable for him. (Gerbil Jack turns his nose up at wheel so far) If you get it I'd be curious to know if you can get it to attach - maybe its just the bars on the cage I was trying? They're closer together than most. That's a great idea about stiffening up the cage with wood!

I dunno - I think just post on this one?
the only wire cages I have are crittertrails so I know the bar spacing is tight but the plastic thing on the wheel that's supposed to attach is kinda tight and inflexible too so I'll be interested to hear how you fare with it
