One of our little guys (around two years old now) is suddenly growing a very thick toenail on one of his back feet (all the rest of the toenails are fine). It's almost like there's a second toenail growing underneath the first one. It doesn't seem to bother him at all, but I can see that it's making that toe turn abnormally when he runs around. Has anyone else seen anything like this? I'm not sure if there's anything we could/should do at this point, but I want to stay on top of it if I can.
Thanks!

Any way you can post a photo? Is it bleeding - any sign of an infection? I once had a gerbil who had a back foot toenail that curved almost 90 degrees relative to the others. This occurred after a toe injury. I used to trim it very carefully with a fingernail clipper while distracting her with a sunflower seed. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Arwen (F) and Eowyn (F) 11/12/2011 - 20 gallon with 20 gallon topper Goldberry (F) 11/12/2011 - 20 gallon with 20 gallon topper

Argh, I tried to get a picture with my phone but can't get one that clearly shows the toenail. No bleeding or swelling or sign of infection--in fact, he doesn't seem to notice it at all, which is a good thing, I guess! The only way I even know that it's affecting his toe is because the rest all show wear on the bottoms of the toes, but that one toe is showing wear off to the side of the toe. But only very slightly, and he's not biting it or worrying it or limping or anything. The curve is normal, but it's like there's a second layer of nail growing under the first, normal layer of nail. I guess it's just one of those things we'll have to watch for awhile and see what happens Thanks again, qtoffer.
