My gerbil Flynn has just had what I think to be stroke - back end paralysed, not able to work, puffy and just laying there. He went into his nest after I have him a bit of water and I expected him to pass away. I checked on him an hour later...and he's completely back to normal. Should I be expecting it to keep happening?

Here's what the American Gerbil Society has to say about strokes:
"Strokes are characterized by paralysis, usually down one side. They are most common in elderly gerbils, but sometimes young gerbils with health problems will suffer from them. A gerbil may experience a series of strokes, and not live long. In other cases they may make a full recovery. Keep them comfortable, and be sure they have food and water."

It could have been a seizure given how quick his recovery was.

My understanding is that seizures involve going limp or freezing/twitching and are pretty brief.
