In about a week I'm going to pick up 3, 6 week old gerbils and I would like some help since I've never had gerbils this young.
I'm getting them because one of my current two gerbils are going to be passing away soon because of an abdominal tumor, so I wanted the get the one left behind some friends.
1, Is there anything special I would need for their diet?
2, Should I wait longer to start interacting with them so they can get used to the new environment?
3, I went and visited a couple of 5 week old gerbils and they are so extremely tiny, is there any tips to handling them when they are still small without causing stress or make them uncomfortable?
4, Is there any food/toy/treats I should be extra careful with?
5, How fast do they grow at that stage of their life?
Any help would be appreciated!

1) If they're 6 weeks old, no. They'll be weaned by now, and will be eating the same food that adult gerbils eat. 2) The general 2-5 days will be just fine, especially since they're all together. It would most likely take longer if one was just by itself. 3) I got a gerbil a couple of weeks ago that was just over 5 weeks, he's extremely sweet and is great at being handled. Just scoop them up with both hands, not from above and not by the tails as you would with an older gerbil. 4) Again, as long as they're made of a safe wood they will be fine, same goes for the food and treats. If they don't eat a certain thing from the food it's not unusual as they're still getting used to solid food and not their mother's milk anymore. 5) Not very.. My little one is only a tad bit bigger than he was when I first got him 8 days ago. Hope this helped, if you have any more questions when you get your little ones this forum is a great place for them

I meant scoop them up with both hands as you would with an older gerbil, never pick them up by their tails. Sorry! Haha
