I just use a big rock from the garden just have to sterilize it well and make sure it isn't sharp as it could damage their skin or fur.

you could use some from the fish or reptile section. Just make sure they are smooth. In addition you may find some for sale in a craft store, just make sure they are not treated with anything but polished ones would be fun. Here is one from petplanet in the UK: www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=1284&pf_id=52105. for £1.99 you're probably better off hunting in the forest.

If you can't find anything, terra cotta pots are also good for gerbil claws

You don't want one that's too smooth, though. A polished one wouldn't wear down their nails.

I use one that I found in my garden. I found instructions on a reptile forum on how to sterilize it; you scrub the rock with table salt and then boil it for 10-15 minutes. Like Shooting Star said, a polished stone wouldn't wear down their nails.

You can get them from anywhere but make sure you sterilise them first before you put them in the tank/cage
