So I've just adopted three gerbils from pets at home.. I'm convinced I'm going to take them to the vets for a thorough check up as I think my white albino is sick. They have had their fair share of fights coming from a tank that had all three separated into a large neutral tank together. My partner has degus and I've owned a hamster and rabbits in the past (currently own two huskys) So just wondering I've scuffed snow and it seems she has a brown patch on her stomach where just one bit of fur pokes out ( a bit like a mole on a person.) along with bite marks which I'm not sure if they're from the introduction or from prior skin conditions. Storm is abnormally overweight but refuses to use a wheel (she was very inactive when in the pets at home tank) but is running around like a loon now.. Shadow seems to keep to herself.. I've been told their all females but that's another one of my doubts.. Vets it is I suppose - it should be free as they should of had checks before they got sent home!

Hi, we;come to the world of gerbils. All gerbils have a yellow hairless patch on the stomach which is there scent glad which they use to mark here belongings and territories, so what your seeing is probably this. If shes got bite marks then I would advise taking her to see the vet. Do you know the age of the gerbils? also have you weighed the gerbils to see if she is over weight? gerbils come in different shapes and sizes just like people so she might just be a more chubby looking one (from one of my pairs I have one that looks quite chubby and a small skinny one, both from the same litter and both eat the same amount, not sure why this is) Hope this helps a bit

Omg that's excellent haha lovely to know, I think the bite marks are from them asserting their levels of who's boss, as I said they were all in separate cages, I'm told 4 months but not sure I can trust pets at home x they're booked in for the vets tomorrow and I was told from them that storm is overweight I haven't weighed them though.. How do I do that..? Not even sure if they're female! Lol

To weigh them get a tall container and some kitchen scales (i weigh them in grams) and then put the container on the scales, put it back to zero and then put the gerbil in the container If you can turn the gerbils over in your hand (AliciaRachaelxx has a good video on turning them over called 'administering medicine to a gebil/hamster on YouTube) makes have a larger HAPT between their urinary and their bum and females are slightly closer togeter or try and take a picture and people on here will be more than happy to help also males have a visible bulge at the base of their tale and females dont have this at all. Hope this helps (i have a video on my YouTube channel (EmilysAnimals9612) called 'how to weigh a gerbil' if ya still need more explaining but if not dw )

I know how to scruff and paralise a hamster lol so basically to administer meds on their backs so I assume that will be the same for a gerbil (my first hamster had wet tail) they're booked in for 5pm at the vets but currently in the process of trying to get pets at home to fork the bill as who buys three sick gerbils from a shop.. Our shops should be regulated by now

Glad to hear there all healthy the average gerbil weight is between 70-120 grams so if she is over weight then its not by much, just feed her a healthy diet
