Hi, I live in a beach town and was thinking of going down to the beach to see if I can find some good bits of driftwood for the gerbils tank, but I want to check that it will be safe for them to do this? I would clean it and oven bake it before giving it to them.

I wouldn't. There's a *lot* of ick that can be picked up in seawater. Water in general, really. I'm not sure standard sanitizing techniques would be enough. Maybe someone else has tried it?

I wouldn't either, for the same reasons that Shooting Star has mentioned. There are also a lot of cracks and crevices that gross little things are hiding in, I'm not sure sanitizing them would get rid of 100%. If you do want driftwood, I'd recommend getting it from a pet shop
