I have 3 about 6 months old gerbils. I have had them for a while and my dad recently bought them a flying saucer. They have only used a silent spinner before and are not figuring how to use this new thing. How do I get them to use their spinner?

All they do is chew the base until I sprayed it to taste bad.

Honestly, though it was nice of your dad to buy it, flying saucers are not good wheels for gerbils, and its unlikely they'll ever do anything with it other than chew it. I would stick with the silent spinners.

Ok. The gerbils in the pet stores I have seen actually do use them, but I guess if I wanted them to actually use this, we should have started them at it when they were still very young. If any one else has an idea though it would be nice to here!

Sorry Leafwhisp, I'm just not sure there is much advice to be given. . . flying saucers simply aren't good wheels for gerbils. I suppose gerbils in a pet store that started out with them would, but even then I wouldn't suggest it since they're too easy for gerbils to chew. And gerbils that aren't used to them probably won't use them. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you!

It is ok. One of my gerbils is using underneath it as a house now anyway!

Hi, I have had the same issue as you, I brought mine a saucer but they just kept overturning it and trying to chew and bury it. I never did manage to get them using it, maybe it is because I introduced it to late. If your gerbils are very friendly you could try encouraging them on to it by holding their favourite treat just out off their reach above it to get the the idea. I have to confess this didn't work for mine in the long run but you may get lucky.

No, it didn't work. But, because one of my gerbils uses it for hiding and eating food, I left it there.

We've found any toys and chew things are very gerbil dependant. They all like different things, and you can't really force or train them to like something. It's like the hanging ladders, some of ours have loved them, others refuse to go on them.
