Ive been going through the normal steps of hand taming and its a lot of good progress, really quickly actually, I just have a couple of questions on different situations.
Ive read both you should hold seeds between your fingers to offer the treats or seeds or put in the palm of your hand, this poses quite the predicament for me.
My koji WILL NOT take seeds from between my fingers what so ever, honestly i just don't think he understands or gets what I'm offering up because as soon as its in the palm of my hand he's all ready and raring to go, I've even made progress where I can pull my hand out of the cage, pet him for a bit and then safely/calmly set him back in without an issue, which is amazing.
BUT Enzo ONLY likes to take from between my fingers, I think because this is how I first began presenting them. So when I have my hand out he goes straight for the fingers and nibbles on them. Its definitely a curiosity nibble, as the first couple of times he just walked away when he didn't find food, but a couple times he gave me a pretty good nip (no blood or anything) but Im always had a sort of fear of biting small animals as Ive been bitten by a guinea pretty badly before. So for both our sakes i would like a good method/solution/suggestion ANYTHING that people would think would help both situations. Koji took a nibble at my finger once and realized it was nothing good and hasn't been back since. So which should I continue with or adapt my methods for each one or try something new???
Also side note: Basille won't take from my hand but when in his nesting box will take from fingers, if its offered while he's in there. Should I continue to feed him while he's inside the box and see if he will eventually come out or set the basis he has to come out to get a treat (he is the shyest of the bunch and I dont want to force or shock him)
Thanks again all, this forum/community has been a big help with relieving some new gerbil mom anxieties/worries I've been having, sorry again for all the threads one right after the other!!
