Hello~
So, you may know Data has ben having teeth problems. He was finally back to having healthy looking teeth, and then sometime recently he lost one again. So He only has one tooth on the bottom and its grown inward and gotten too long. so, I need to trim it. trouble is, last time I tried to trim it at home, I couldn't maneuver the clippers into his mouth/ get him to open his mouth. yesterday, when looking at his teeth, I had to pull his mouth open with my free hand. but I cant hold him, hold his mouth open, and clip the tooth at the same time.
Does anyone have any advice or tips about how to do this?

I guess you don't have anyone to help you? maybe look for ideas as I'm sure others do it, using google or another search engine, there may be photos as well or even on youtube? I've never clipped teeth. I hope you can try other positions that may help, like maybe in your lap?

We had one guy with rogue teeth. It was a vet job every time, we got clippers and I could hold him, but couldn't go through with it for fear of hurting him.

I ended up using very sharp clippers - i think they're for wire? they worked better than the fingernail clippers but it was a pretty traumatizing experience for him. i don't *think* I hurt him...

Clipping teeth isn't something you should do unless you've been shown how to do it. Done incorrectly you can break or split the root, creating more problems. Or you could accidentally pull the tooth out completely. I know how to clip teeth, I've done it hundreds of times, i know what happens when it goes wrong... because its happened to me. You should get a vet to do this for you, or at the least have them show you how to do it.
Some tools are better than others. using a pair of toenail clippers is probably the hardest tool to use, and most likely to cut you gerbils mouth or tongue.
If you can't hold a gerbil in your non dominant hand on its back with only one hand, you shouldn't even try to clip the teeth. You need to be able to control their head and lips without causing them distress or applying excessive amounts of force to hold them, you need your good hand to get in there and clip the teeth quickly and to not miss.
