Hey there guys! I need help to know if to separate my gerbils or not. It's only two of them that are acting weird.
I have four boys who I got at the same time, and they are brothers. I noticed behavior that is slightly odd because of how aggressive it seemed. I spent all of my time in the living room, enough to see ANY behavior changes. Two things happened today and seems to get worse?
Maybe thire personalities might help? Gandalf is polite and shy, NEVER BITES. Fenrir on the other hand is outgoing and energetic.
They had two "play fights" and some odd behaviors after. otherwise they don't seem to mind each other.
Earlier today Fenrir was chasing after Gandalf, seemed kind of aggressive because it was more jumpy than a usual play fight I've seen. Fenrir then chased Gandalf into a tunnel. I don't know if that is normal... but after that Gandalf seemed sort of skittish. Eventually he would go up to Fenrir and "kiss". Looked like Gandalf was trying to be social anyhow. Things seemed normal until a bit ago...
Now it was Gandalf who seemed to have a long drawn out "fight" with Fenrir. Chased him around the tank. I stopped the fight and Fenrir had bits of hair stuck together but no visible wounds. I took him out of the tank to look, no cuts but he strangely calmed down and SAT on my hand, which he never does. After a few minutes I don't know if it was smart to place him back but I did and that's why I don't know if I should separate or not.
I observed to see and actually noticed that Fenrir was avoiding for a bit, but then went up to Gandalf. They seem to be doing SOMETHING because they are nearby and kissing a bit. So I thought maybe he's apologizing...One of my other Gerbils (Lotus, a caring and friendly gerbil) went between the two and started to groom both of them. Fenrir seemed sensitive but did allow the grooming and eventually left them when Gandalf started to groom Fenrir and vice versa. Since then they stay side by side, grooming here and there and seem normal.
So maybe it's okay?

OMG NO IT IS NOT OKAY
Gandalf and Fenrir just fought. THERE IS BLOOD! not only that but Lotus actually started to fight Fenrir! THAT WAS DUMB TO THINK IT WOULD BE OKAY because they were grooming
I separated Fenrir from everyone and am NOT risking Fenrir getting hurt anymore. (Even though he did the most damage to Gandalf actually but Gandalf started the fight) .I'm not putting the other gerbil (Drix) who has been asleep for the whole thing. I want to be safe.
Now I'm gonna read up to see how to treat these wounds and see how serious it is.
Does this mean Gandalf might fight another gerbil?
