On a you tube video i saw that was made by horse lover she gives her gerbils yogurt treats. Why do people give yogurt teats to their gerbils and hamsters when it has a lot of sugar in the teats?
What teats do you think are bad for gerbils? Also what teats do you give your gerbils?

I don't personally feed my gerbils yogurt drops although I have done in the past, they are ok if fed very sparingly though. I like natural or beneficial treats myself and I now only feed my gerbils natural treats (including some shop brought natural treats) like meal worms, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, squash seeds, dried fruit, naturals carrotys, bordom breakers little hearts and Nutri-Care Treats, and some forage stuff. Thats basically my treat collection. And of course all fed sparingly

My gerbils' favorite treats are whole grain Cheerios, almond slices, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds. In the summer, I give them small bits of fresh strawberry, blueberry, or raspberry.
Just about any seed or tree nut, most fruits, and unsweetened whole grain breakfast cereals are good gerbil treats. Just don't offer too much too often. I give them an amount that they can comfortable hold in their two front paws once or twice a day. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Eowyn (F) 11/12/2011 - 20 gallon with 20 gallon topper Goldberry (F) 11/12/2011 - 20 gallon with 20 gallon topper -------------------------------------------------------------- RIP Maire 11/6/2008 - 4/6/2011; Eithne 11/6/2008 - 10/10/2011 Lori 5/2/2011 - 7/24/2013; Mo 5/2/2011 - 1/14/2014; Carly 5/2/2011 - 5/21/2014 Arwen 11/12/2011 - 2/8/2015

For treats my gerbils love mealworms (Live or dried) I did research this and they are completely safe, in the wild they would have this sort of stuff so mealworms are completely natural for them HOWEVER You should not give them in large quantities as they do contain loads of nutrition and you don't want to over nutrition them. P.S Mine have dried mealworms The link to my Gerbil Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/808192105914876/

I give my gerbils nuts, cheerios (only pieces, not the whole thing), and fresh fruit or veggies (5 days a week, but small amounts). I also have given cheese, but only once. I might try meal worms some time...

Because pet shops sell them as gerbil treats? and the bags say specifically for "hamsters, gerbils, mice and rats" Given the energy expended by a typical gerbil, I don think the treats have any bad effects. Ours are hyper with or without treats.
