I saw on here a post from Regina that has a master list of foods that Oxbow was on the not so good list. I thought it was the best. My gerbil babies love it. Can someone help me?

Oxbow is pretty good. I really haven't had time to look into whether being hay-based is an issue. I used it in my mix for a year or so, just recently switched to using the Oxbow Adult Rat instead (as part of a mix, not by itself). The gerbils seem to like it a lot more, but part of that could just be because it's something new.

some people don't like Oxbow because it offers no variety to the gerbils. For some this might be a good thing if they are unable to wait out their gerbils and make them eat everything in the seed mix food before refilling their supply. Gerbils will naturally eat their favorite food first/higher fat foods. I think it is a survival thing because in the wild they will eat what gives them the most energy first and leave the rest if the higher fat stuff isn't available. The other issue is that Oxbow is lower in fat than the ideal for adult gerbils. The percentage that you want to aim for is 7% and I think Oxbow only has 4.5%. I lot of people like to use it in a mix to make up for the lack of variety and lower fat.

I think Oxbow would be ok as long as they have other stuff too. When I got my gerbils that is what they were being fed, and so we bought some to help transition them to other food. Now they refuse to eat the oxbow!
