I have a "gerbil sized" silent spinner for my gerbils. I have recently heard that that size can be to small. It worked for my previous female gerbils, but they were smaller than 2 of my 3 male gerbils. Bolt and Ash run on the wheel just fine, but Brave doesn't. He is the largest, but I don't know if he doesn't run because he doesn't want to (He likes burrowing more) or the wheel is too small. What's your advice?

Generally, gerbils can run on that size of wheel, it just has the potential to hurt them. So if you could get a bigger one, that would probably be better. I use mesh wheels (which are bigger) for my male gerbils.

Only one of my gerbils use their wheel, I even upgraded from silent spinner to a 8" wheel as I thought that maybe the other one would run if the wheel was bigger, but so far he has showed no interest in running in it (sometimes he goes and sits on it, but that's about it).

My gerbils have a silent spinner wheel that is 6.5" and they seem fine in it. My one gerbil Blitzen is always in the wheel running and my other gerbil Cupid is rarely in it. She does go in it but I hardly ever see her in there. Blitzen will constantly run for ages and Cupid will run a bit then get out. Cupid likes chewing rather than running. I don't really recommend wire mesh wheels as I have known cases where gerbils tails have detached because they have got stuck and I have also known cases where they have broken their foot or snapped their foot off because again their feet got stuck, so I would just stick to filled in wheels. I wouldn't worry about it because like I said one of my gerbils hardly ever use the wheel. If you are worried or want more info about Why your gerbil doesn't use its wheel. If the mesh isn't too wide for the feet/the tail to get stuck in it, they should be fine. The wheel I use, the holes in the mesh are too small for the tail to get caught or anything.
