What kinds of hay are best for gerbils? I have Timothy and I need to know if I need to get rid of it for a new type. Also how much hay should I give my gerbils and how often should I give it to them?

Timothy hay is fine for gerbils. It helps tunnels hold their shape and is good for the gerbils to chew on. They don't actually eat it - they shred it into small pieces. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Eowyn (F) 11/12/2011 - 20 gallon with 20 gallon topper Goldberry (F) 11/12/2011 - 20 gallon with 20 gallon topper -------------------------------------------------------------- RIP Maire 11/6/2008 - 4/6/2011; Eithne 11/6/2008 - 10/10/2011 Lori 5/2/2011 - 7/24/2013; Mo 5/2/2011 - 1/14/2014; Carly 5/2/2011 - 5/21/2014 Arwen 11/12/2011 - 2/8/2015

I'm sure I read somewhere that the hay should be frozen before it's put in the cage to kill off any mites? Is that right, and if so, how long should it be frozen for?

Ideally you should freeze hay overnight before use.

Timothy Hay is fine for gerbils. They don't need it but they like it. PetMad15

I personally prefers Orchard Grass from Oxbow as they smells sweeter and is softer in texture.
