So just a question about breeding and nursing pups. Backstory: I had two moms have pups on 3/10/2015. Nanna is a little bit older and has had 3 other litters that all were chunky pups. Eostre is less than a year old and has had 1 other litter that was a single pup and he was skinny and missing a bit of hair on his back but survived. Now I separated the males from females from this recent pair of litters and let each mom nurse one gender or the other. Nanna took the 5 boys and Eostre took the 7 girls. After three weeks I've noticed that the girls are TINY compared to the boys who are plump and almost 2/3 bigger than their sisters. Here is a link to my facebook page that has pictures of a brother and sister from the same litter but were nursed by the different mothers. (for some reason I can't post pics here) You can really see the difference: www.facebook.com/cedarmoongerbilsSo my question is, should I be worried that Eostre might not have nutritious enough milk? And if so, should I not breed from her again?

It's probably more that Eostre isn't producing enough milk, rather than having milk lacking in nutrition. If her only previous litter was a singleton, giving her 7 pups this time was probably a bit ambitious. She's probably fine to breed again, but if you're going to redistribute pups, I wouldn't give her more than 4 or so.

Thank you so much! I will be sure to do that on her next litter then. ^_^
