Hi, I have a trio of females that were previously living in two 10 gallons connected with plastic crittertrail tubes. I know that plastic isn't ideal, but it was quite thick and they didn't chew on it much. Until now! I've had to remove the tubes, leaving them in just a 10 gallon. Obviously this can't be a permanent arrangement. My question is, does anyone know of tubes I could use that aren't plastic? All the metal tubing that I know of doesn't have any traction so they wouldn't be able to climb it. But I thought maybe someone would know of some that would work. Thanks!

so the only thing I have seen is someone using dryer hose tubing. I am not at all familiar with this and don't remember what it is made of. There is the super flexible ones but I think those are unsuitable because they are paper and foil. You may be able to use the metal ones and add hot glued sticks and ladders inside for them to climb or something. I have been pondering this and haven't come up with a better answer for you.

This doesn't actually answer your question, but would you be able to try to do something like this:

I love that idea of the humped topper - well done for finding...

Keldamouse- thanks for the reply! I wondered about those, but I've never been able to find any in the right size. Typical. Blanknote- that's a very neat idea! I've never actually used a topper and I'm not sure if it would fit with the way I have my cages set up (they're all stacked on shelving units), but I'll look into it. For now I just got some replacement tubes and I'm using those until I can work something out/until they chew them again! I wish I could manage a 20 gallon but I don't have the money or space to have that for all nine gerbils. Thanks everyone!
