Ive heard that 90% of gerbils will have to have a scent gland operation in their life? I know scent gland issues are common but is 90& necessarily true? Just curious

I can't speak statistically, but out of the 20+ gerbils I've had, none have ever had a scent gland tumor and therefore never an operation.

We've had a few, none recently, only 1 survive the operation. They have a 50/50 chance from the anaesthetic

I have only had 1 SGT out of about 50 gerbils I have had live over 2 years.
I have no idea if any of my homed pups got one in old age though...
Mind you, the number of gerbils that get tumours that are untreated or not even diagnosed is probably quite high...
