Their home: I'll gradually add more bedding/cardboard/etc as they need it.

Sorry - me again I been trying to identify their types. Would Gerald be a Grey Agouti, and Geraldine a Golden Argente? They both have pinky paws and claws ...

They're gorgeous - lovely markings. Brother & sister maybe? Do you have any idea how old they are?

The rescue centre guessed at about a year old. I have no idea how they guessed at that, so I'll go along with it ...

If they were found in the same place a day apart it's highly likely they were together before. In which case it may be wise to keep an eye on Geraldine for the next couple of weeks in case they mated before they were found. Don't panic though - we got 2 'boys' a while ago who managed to produce 4 pups. We only discovered the pups when they were about 10-12 days old by which point mum was already pregnant again. Her second litter of 4 are 17 days old. We'd never have deliberately gone into breeding but now it's happened we wouldn't have missed it for the world. It's been fascinating watching them & they're amazing parents

Very cute gerbils. I would say that Geraldine is a pied Argente and Gerald could be a pied grey agouti or a pied CP Agouti. Not totally sure as I get mixed up on those two colours.

Thanks everyone I am so fortunate that they wanted to be together ... they snuggle down for naps cuddled up to each other, its so sweet! Gerald is more confident than Geraldine - when he hears a voice he pops up straight away to say hello and was the first to come up to the bars for a sniff. I've even been able to pick him up, which is fab as they've only known me a couple of days and are still getting used to me. Both spend the whole time kicking their bedding around lol!

Some gerbils are just so confident that nothing stands between them and coming out for playtime.
Glad they found your home and are having so much fun...
Ps - the kicking around of bedding is an everyday occurrence all the while they have back legs!

Congrats on your new gerbils! I love what you have done to the tank topper part of the gerbilarium! Has either of them climbed on the hanging ladder on the right? My boys have it, but they have paid no interest in it!

Thanks blanknote No mine haven't shown any interest in their fancy climbing frame either, so I'm thinking of removing it and replacing it with a larger wooden shelf. At least then I'll have somewhere to put their sand bath ...

Ours are similar - they seem to prefer something stable under foot rather than anything that moves or sways.
How are you keeping the wooden platforms clean? Ours are getting stained with them tiddling & pooping on them & even though I clean the wood twice a day the stains don't come out & they'll start smelling eventually. I've tried putting cut out pieces of cardboard on top (easy to remove & replace when soiled) but they just drag it down & destroy it!

Just a daily sweep so far, although at the weekend I'll have to unscrew them and give them a wash ... They are soaking in pee! At keast it shows they're drinking plenty ... If it gets too bad I'll maybe have a rethink ,,,

I'm not sure would you be able to find a correct size tile, but it could work...
