Staining and/or a funny molt. It will go away in time.

What kind of staining do you think? Is that a genetic term or do you mean like an actual stain of like a type of bedding or soil? The lady who gave him to me bathed him with soap and water before giving him to me-after I advised her not to-because she thought it was a dirt type stain as well. But he still has the same coloring. It's weird and very cool!

Does it go up onto his tummy, or is it just around his bottom where it is in contact with the bedding?
Around the bum isn't on any underlying coat making areas (ie, it's not found white with the spotting gene, or like the head spots etc), but up the tummy is where the tummy markings are?
I did have a Burmese once who moulted through ginger, and would have a ginger scrotum and back feet for months at a time... might try and find those pictures and see if it looks the same (it could be on here under a moulting title....)

Ooh good question! On his face when you look in the light there is a bit of orange underneath, it's a bit hard to tell with those pictures. But yeah, that is why I thought at first he might be an oily nutmeg.

One of ours had brown/orange flecks under his back end and along his tail. He's black/slate too but with the white chin and paws.

Well, he was adopted to an awesome family today, so I may never know. But they loved his coloring and personality. Win win!
